Maile Boeke Sand (Professional Counselor Associate)

Maile Boeke Sand (PCA) specializes in art therapy, grief, depression and anxiety, addiction, and trauma recovery. She offers in-person and telehealth services for youth 12 and older and women.
Maile holds a Masters degree in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University. She began her career as a therapist in women’s residential addiction treatment. She is experienced in many evidenced based practices but considers Art Therapy her primary modality. Her career has taken a winding road through child rearing, art education, and fine art. She is returning to counseling with a deeper, broader base of knowledge and experience that will enrich her practice.
A message to potential clients from Maile:
Seeking help is the first step of a courageous journey toward healing and self-discovery. I use the word courageous intentionally because I know that asking for help is hard, sharing your story with someone new is vulnerable, and change can be scary. But I can tell you from experience, my own and so many others, that it is worth the effort. You are worth the effort! Counseling is an investment you make in yourself, in your relationships and in your future.
Art therapy is my primary area of expertise, and I can assure you that no artistic talent is necessary! My role is to create a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate space for you to explore the things that are causing distress or discomfort in your life. Art making is a powerful tool that can unlock areas of ourselves we are unable to access verbally. I do recognize not everyone is comfortable with art making and if you do not want art therapy to be part of your experience, that is entirely up to you; I will respect that. I am comfortable and experienced in many evidenced based practices as well, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, and Non-Violent Communication.
I view therapy as a partnership. You are the expert on you. I am a guide, equipped with tools and knowledge for the journey toward healing and self-discovery. There isn’t a destination or finish line so much as rest stops and places of peace and joy along the way. I would be truly honored to accompany you for part of your journey.
